Outstanding Alumni Chapter of the Year

The 2021 North Carolina FFA Alumni and Supporters Outstanding Alumni Chapter of the Year is West Rowan FFA Alumni! 

The West Rowan FFA Alumni and Supporters Chapter is a diverse group of former FFA members, parents, farmers, businessmen and women, and agricultural advocates that support the growth and development of the students in agricultural education classes at West Rowan High School. The alumni chapter provides financial support, SAE experiences, classroom speakers, on-farm experiences, and job opportunities for their FFA members to develop high school graduates who are confident and prepared to make informed decisions about their future. 

This year, their annual oyster roast saw over 500 community members come together to experience an all-you-can eat seafood event, a silent auction, multiple raffles, and displays from the FFA chapter. Proceeds from the oyster roast fund West Rowan FFA chapter activities. In addition, the alumni chapter was able to complete the purchase and graphic design on an enclosed trailer. This events trailer will be used for vending events, mobile classroom opportunities, and marketing events for their alumni and FFA chapters. One of the most impactful activities of the year was the sponsorship of the "Plant Hope" initiative. This event distributed starter garden plants or seed packets to over 80 families in our community who would be categorized as food insecure.  This initiative allowed West Rowan FFA Alumni to partner with the West Rowan FFA horticulture program to provide plants, seeds, a how-to care guide, and simple recipes for utilizing the products of their gardens.
