Register for the 2019 NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission SAE Camp

The University of Mount Olive will host the 2019 NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Campfor high school FFA members at least 15 years of age July 8 - 12, 2019.  The week also includes a professional development institute for current agricultural education teachers to focus on improving SAE participation and cultivating new and innovative ideas for student SAE projects. This weeklong overnight camp is designed to introduce students to the agriculture industry and showcase the diversity of agriculture in North Carolina. This will be a residential camp and chaperones will be provided for the entire week by UMO.  Teacher attendance is not required for student participation in the TTFC SAE Camp.  Students and teachers will be separated for several activities but some time will be provided to collaborate.

The link for the student camp application is https://apply.umo.edu/register/SAEstudent.  Please encourage your students to apply for the camp which is provided at no cost to the student thanks to a grant from the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission. The students can earn up to 45 hours of SAE credit by attending this week-long summer camp on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.  The student must be 15 years of age by July 8, the first day of the camp, to attend.  Overnight accommodations for students will be in the university’s residential apartments on campus.

The application for the NC TTFC SAE Professional Development Institute offered to teachers can be downloaded at https://apply.umo.edu/register/SAEAdvisor.  We hope that you will consider applying to participate in the third annual NC TTFC SAE Institute at UMO.  Overnight accommodations will be provided for teachers at the Sleep Inn & Suites in Mount Olive.  Participating teachers will be required to attend all events to receive the full 3 continuing education units.  Although all teachers are invited to apply to attend this year’s institute, preference will be given to first time applicants who have not attended an SAE Institute in previous years.

All applicants will need to submit an online application by May 15, 2019. Teachers must complete an application and upload a photo release and a release of liability form.  The student application requires that transcripts and proof of age be emailed to SMaddox@umo.edu.  The letter of recommendation from the teacher, release of liability form and photo release form signed by a parent or guardian, and the essay may be uploaded directly to the application. Each will need to be completed before beginning the online application because it will not save applicant information to return and complete later. There is a listing of all necessary documents and a link at the top of the application to save or print each of the required documents.

Teacher rooms at the Sleep Inn & Suites will have all amenities.  Student rooms on campus will include a kitchen and wi-fi access.  TVs will be provided in the rooms as well.

We hope that you will post the attached flyers in your classroom and share details with students.  We hope that you will also consider submitting an application to attend the SAE Teacher Institute.  Space is limited so be sure that all applications are sent in as soon as possible by May 15, 2019. If you have any questions about the SAE Institute, please contact Dr. Sandy Maddox at smaddox@umo.edu.  If you have issues with the application contact EOlive@umo.edu.
